🎤  Show lyrics & chords in new tab. March 2020 Recorded as a voice memo late one night. First (and last) time I ever played it. It is improvised and isn't really a song at all. There are no repeating parts and there is no real structure (i.e., verses or chorus). I originally I planned to develop it. I still might. But maybe this is it.Â
Superstar
📖  Show lyrics & chords in new tab. April 2020 I tried to sing this one but was unhappy with the result, so this is an instrumental version.
Shadow of Doubt
🎤  Show lyrics & chords in new tab. May 2020 To entertain—and challenge—myself, I decided to try to write a "Bob Dylan" song. I was motivated by a few verses that come into my head that felt Dylanesque. I have always felt that there is a bitterness, or toughness, in the way Dylan sometimes writes about women ("Goodbye is too good a word babe", "Cry just like a little girl") which just does not resonate with me. So, as a challenge, I thought I would try to capture this sentiment, in addition to the voice and tune. Note: Lyrics tweaked since the recording.
Heartache
🎤  Show lyrics & chords in new tab. May 2020 This song was inspired by a Valentine's Day article I read in the Globe & Mail by Laura Pratt. (Click here to find out what happened when I mustered up enough courage to send Laura the song.)
Old Stones
🎤  Show lyrics & chords in new tab. May 2020 This song was inspired by some of the folk laments we used to sing at our family singsongs—songs like The Housewife's Lament and I Never Will Marry.
Sex Machine
🎤  Show lyrics & chords in new tab. May 2020 The modern world ... sex machines are trying to be us while we are trying to be sex machines. Recording updated May 2026
Sliding to the Brink
🎤  Show lyrics & chords in new tab. May 2020 I recently discovered a song called Corrina, Corrina that was first recorded as a 12-bar blues song in 1928 and has been adapted by many artists including Tom Rush and Bob Dylan. Sliding to the Brink includes the 12-bar blues melody from Corrina, Corrina.
Me and Maxine
🎤  Show lyrics & chords in new tab. May 2020 A silly song about the lockdown. I imagined this as a duet.
Ransom
🎤  Show lyrics & chords in new tab. May 2020 For this song—recorded with Logic X Pro—I used the Yamaha grand piano and the tango accordion. Note that I updated the song (October 2021) based on a suggestion by my friend Robin.
